Vulcan captain, first contact

Human-Vulcan first contact in 2063

A computer screen in ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II" mistakenly noted the first successful demonstration of warp-based lightspeed propulsion by Zefram Cochrane to have occured in 2061.
  • April 5th - Zefram Cochrane launches the Phoenix, mankind's first manned warp-capable ship, from a remote location in the continental United States. Its brief warp flight is detected by a Vulcan survey ship, the T'Plana-Hath, passing through the local sector, and the ship diverts course to investigate. This leads to the historic First Contact between Humans and extraterrestrial life (of public record, as earlier unofficial contacts had been made). Unknown until 2373 is the fact that a Borg sphere had traveled back from the future in order to derail Cochrane's plans and destroy the Phoenix. The attempt was thwarted by the USS Enterprise-E and Cochrane. Also unknown was the fact that several Starfleet officers from the Enterprise-E, including Commanders William Riker and Geordi La Forge, assisted Cochrane and joined him on his inaugural flight.
