In The Hollywood Reporter Comic-Con special, Zoë Saldana stated she will film Star Trek XIII after Avatar 2 (both will film next year for release in 2016). [1] On a separate note, Nathan Fillion joined her to portray a sci-fi icon for the issue, namely James T. Kirk. [2]

When asked if Star Trek XIII would feel like the conclusion of a trilogy, Zachary Quinto responded "I think the five-year mission will be a part of this next film," and that "We'll feel some sense of evolution in these characters that's been building through the first few films." [3]

Star Trek XIII producer/co-writer Roberto Orci mentioned that he is not officially directing the film until Paramount Pictures approves the script, which is still being written. [4]
